Amy Berringer
Featured Local Artist
Amy Berringer brings fifteen years of ceramic artistry to her distinctive work, approaching clay with the eye of a painter who discovered yet another compelling surface for artistic expression. As a founding member of Loudoun Empty Bowls, Amy has combined her artistic passion with community service, contributing to the fight against hunger through handcrafted ceramic bowls.
Her technique is particularly influenced by her fascination with Amaco’s semi-moist underglazes, which she prizes for their watercolor-like properties. These materials allow Amy to achieve the fluid, translucent effects that bridge her background in traditional painting with the three-dimensional possibilities of ceramic art. The underglazes enable her to create pieces with depth and luminosity that capture the spontaneous beauty of watercolor while maintaining the permanence and functionality of fired clay.
Amy’s work can be discovered at local shops throughout the region, as well as at the Waterford Fair and during the Purcellville Artisan Tour, where collectors and ceramic enthusiasts can experience firsthand the distinctive quality that comes from her painter’s approach to clay. Through these venues, she continues to share her artistic vision while supporting the vibrant local arts community that has nurtured her ceramic journey.
